To our Supporters,
The Foundation wishes to thank all of you who helped make Doggday 2010 (our seventh) a great success despite the inclement weather. There was a brief glimmer early Friday morning when it appeared the relentless rain might just slide out to sea and let us play our usual daytime golf and tennis events, but it was not to be as torrential rainfall resumed around 10am forcing cancellation of those events. But 150 loyal supporters were not deterred from enjoying the evening festivities!
Slowly around 5pm our hearty group battled the storm and slogged in, some from far and others from here in town, supporters of all ages. One of the special things about Doggday is as our supporters’ families grow, they bring their children back to enjoy the festivities so we now have a third generation of children celebrating a wonderful cause.
As has become our custom, Andy Dwyer reviewed the Foundation’s activities over the last year, and we certainly have been busy with several new initiatives including the first recipients of Andrew K Dwyer Scholarships for children of police, EMT, and firefighters of the town of Bedford. At the Doggday dinner the Foundation also announced the initial winner of the Andrew K. Dwyer Foundation Award. This award is to be an annual award given to an individual who by his or her dedication has honored the Foundation’s values while contributing to the spirit of volunteerism. The Foundation was thrilled to award the inaugural award to Herbert Foster who has been so instrumental to the Foundation’s success and such a dedicated volunteer in the Bedford community.
Once again Dede Brooks was not only effective but entertaining as our auctioneer extraordinaire and we thank all of you wonderful donors, bidders, and winners for your amazing support. And of course there was partying with the Bad News Band- John Abbott, Freddy Bancroft, Turner Smith, and Andy Kuuisto. Thank you so much for helping us make the night so memorable- and John watching your grand daughter Winnie dance and shake to your music was as they say priceless!
The Andrew K. Dwyer Foundation in its eighth year is not only surviving, it is thriving with new programs, volunteers, and commitments, but none of this happens without you all. We know these are difficult times, so from all of us, thank you for your amazing support and encouragement.
Sincerely,
Cynthia K. Dwyer
