The Andrew K. Dwyer Award goes to Chesley Andrews. Chesley richly deserves this award for her outstanding contributions to the Foundation for thoroughly redesigning and maintaining the Foundation website. The new website has been an instant success, increasing participation and communication to all of our supporters.

The New York Times named Harlem Academy as the top winner of this year’s Nonprofit Excellence Awards. Harlem Academy is the first school ever to be recognized with the prestigious honor which required an intensive assessment, including two rounds of written applications, a three-hour and site visit.

The Waterside School celebrated its tenth year of operation with the opening of a new facility on 770 Pacific Street. The new facility includes academic classrooms equipped with SMART technology; classroom spaces specifically equipped for science, art, computer and music; a library/media center, a dining hall, a gymnasium of the highest quality and a multi-purpose green roof providing a playing field and outdoor learning spaces.

AKDF provides sponsors a paid internship at Project Sunshine and a 6th grade scholarship at Brooklyn Jesuit Prep.

Nicole Diebold, a senior at Brewster High School, is the new scholarship recipient.

Herb Foster has been instrumental to the Foundation’s success and a dedicated volunteer in the Bedford Community. Herbs chose to donate his $1000.00 to the Bedford Free Library, Bedford Hills Library and the Katonah Library.
